Let’s take a brief break from the Londolozi game reserve …. A few weeks ago i read an interview on Olga Oreshyna  by Freshome and i was just awed. It’s always exciting seeing people turn their passion into their livelihood. Her passion for woodworking inspires her to give a renewed life to abandoned pieces of wood, resulting  in distinctive decorative panels perfectly suitable to modern interiors.

In her interview she mentioned that quite a number of granite & marble companies use unique types of hardwood to convey their valuable products in, after which they dispose of the hardwood they no longer need. Olga acquires this hardwood and creates her mosaic collections with them.

When asked how she feels working with wood, she stated that she feels the energy that was accumulated in trees throughout hundreds of years, by the sun, water and soil (raw passion right…. i knooow).

Now although it isn’t necessarily African, it’s wood so it really has no nationality and blends well with any design style (although the colour might have to change).  In case you wanna go totally African, consider using Bamboo, Mahogany, Teak, and Zebrano  (just to name a few).
